The story of SMITHWRIGHT begins in the 1970s, with husband and wife Larry and Sandy Smith working as Oak Creek Construction. Steve, their son, worked in the field with his dad from a young age before starting his own cabinet shop in the late ’80s to serve custom home clients. Steve’s younger brother, Doug Smith, joined as a partner in the mid ‘90s. In 1998, these two brothers and their father decided to start their own firm in SMITHWRIGHT Construction. The three of them remained active as equal partners until Larry’s recent retirement. In the 35 years since SMITHWRIGHT was founded, we have completed hundreds of projects throughout Bonner and Boundary Counties. We’re pleased that we’ve managed to build more than just custom homes; we’ve also built a well of respect and admiration from customers, subcontractors, and fellow builders alike. Our projects range in size, from custom homes and exceptional remodels, to condos, spec homes, and even commercial projects. Despite our expertise as custom home builders, we are equipped to handle any building or remodeling project. In an effort to further establish ourselves as the premier custom home builders in North Idaho, we have filed a certificate of assumed business name as SMITHWRIGHT. Although it has been over 35 years since we turned our dream of building into reality, we have never lost sight of our goals of delivering high quality custom homes from our family to yours.
