SMITHWRIGHT is a custom home builder based in Sandpoint, Idaho, specializing in high-end, design-driven homes and complex remodels throughout North Idaho, including Schweitzer Mountain, Lake Pend Oreille, and The Idaho Club.
Led by owners Jason and Kelli Collins, our company combines structural engineering and project management expertise with decades of collective hands-on construction experience across the Smithwright team. That depth informs how we evaluate projects, collaborate with design teams, and guide homeowners through construction.
Jason’s leadership at Smithwright draws on more than 20 years of experience in high-end residential structural engineering and construction administration, including collaboration with Olson Kundig, Miller Hull, and Eerkes Architects. His technical understanding and experience with demanding architecture guide our approach to building: coordinating early, understanding how structure and design work together, and anticipating challenges before they reach the field.
On North Idaho’s steep, waterfront, and mountain properties, that perspective is particularly valuable. Site conditions, complex structural systems, expansive glazing, and precise architectural details require thoughtful coordination. Jason’s engineering expertise helps us ask informed questions, evaluate constructability, and work closely with each project’s architects, engineers, and designers to preserve design intent.
Kelli brings more than 20 years of construction and project management experience to her leadership at Smithwright. She serves as the client’s advocate from early planning through construction and move-in, helping protect both the design vision and the client’s investment. Working closely with homeowners, architects, designers, and the construction team, she keeps priorities clear and decisions coordinated. Her focus on communication, meticulous quality control, and attention to detail helps carry the design team’s specifications through to the finished home.
Together, Jason and Kelli bring complementary expertise to the responsibility of building: technical understanding, disciplined project coordination, and care for the homeowner’s experience. That shared approach guides our collaboration with clients, architects, interior designers, and trade partners from early planning through completion.
The name SMITHWRIGHT reflects how we think about the work. A smith shapes raw material through skill, repetition, and care. A wright builds with purpose. Combined, they represent our belief that building is both craft and responsibility.
