SMITHWRIGHT, is a North Idaho–based residential builder specializing in complex, design-driven homes and remodels.
Our firm traces its roots to the 1970s, when Larry and Sandy Smith began building homes grounded in craftsmanship and integrity. That foundation carried forward through the next generation, with brothers Doug & Steve Smith founding their own business in 1998 and steadily earning the trust of clients, architects, subcontractors, and professional advisors throughout Bonner and Boundary Counties.
Today, SMITHWRIGHT, continues into its next chapter with an expanded depth of expertise. Founder Steve Smith has recently retired, and Jason Collins has joined the firm as an owner. Jason brings the perspective of a structural engineer, strengthening our ability to engage early with design teams, anticipate technical complexity, and execute projects with rigor and precision.
We approach each project as a collaborative process—one that respects the client’s vision, the architect’s intent, and the realities of building in demanding environments. Our work is defined not by scale or spectacle, but by disciplined execution, thoughtful problem-solving, and homes that feel inevitable in their place.
